Time: The Dimension That Flips the Script

Choose rush/emergency procurement when:

- The value of the order justifies the premium—usually above $500.
A Note on Brands
I focus on Furukawa because their parts are widely available through distributors, which makes rush feasible. That said, if you’re sourcing for a Furukawa battery (like the FB7000), standard lead is the norm, and rush only makes sense for critical downtime scenarios. For their fiber optic cables or RJ45 connectors, standard is almost always sufficient unless you’re under a strict deadline.
The Bottom Line
Here’s my honest take: I recommend standard for 80% of orders. But if you’re in the other 20%—where downtime is real, schedules are tight, and the cost of waiting exceeds the premium—rush isn’t a luxury. It’s the cheapest option.
My advice: budget for the standard lead, but keep a 10-15% contingency line for emergency procurement. When the call comes—and it will—you’ll already know which path to take.
